UKZN'S Weed Biocontrol Research Group
Overview
Research focuses on the biological control of invasive alien plants using insect natural enemies. Projects involve introduced plants that are invasive in South Africa, but also native South African plants that are invasive elsewhere in the world. These projects include collaborations with national organizations like the ARC-Plant Health & Protection and international organizations like Landcare Research (New Zealand) and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (Australia).
Research Areas
- Surveys for potential biological control agents.
- Studies and the biology, ecology and host range of candidate agents.
- Evaluations of agent impact on the target plants.
