Senior Lecturer

Dr David Glasson has been employed at UKZN since 2009. During that time, he graduated five PhD students and numerous Masters students. His undergraduate and honours teaching includes modules on marine systems, coastal ecology, and vertebrate biology. His current primary research interests are plastic pollution of marine environments and the use of corals from intertidal habitats as models for thermal resilience in the face of climate change.

Research interests

  • Coral reef ecology
  • Coral biology and responses to climate change
  • General benthic ecology on hard substrata.
  • Marine plastic pollution, with an emphasis on microplastics and their effects on various faunal groups.
