Alumna Makes Apolito’s Most Influential People List 
Debra Roberts, Honorary UKZN Professor, Head of the Sustainable and Resilient City Initiatives Unit at the eThekwini Municipality and South Africa’s first Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group, has been named one of the World’s 100 Most Influential People in Climate Policy for 2019 by the public servants’ networking group, Apolitical.

 Updates on the Outcomes of the 48th Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change recently held its 48th Session and the First Joint Session of Working Groups I, II and III in Incheon, South Korea (01-05 October 2018). During the session, the Panel considered and approved the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C. 

During the weeklong event, the Panel also noted the report of the International Conference on Climate Change and Cities co-sponsored by the IPCC and nine partner organisations. The conference, held in Edmonton, Canada in March 2018, identified key research and knowledge gaps regarding cities and climate change resulting in the Research and Action Agenda on Cities and Climate Change Science. 

 
 Launch of IPCC Technical Support Unit Office at UKZN

The launch of the Durban office of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Working Group II Technical Support Unit (WGII TSU) at the Smart Grid Research Centre on UKZN’s Westville campus attracted more than 60 guests drawn from a broad spectrum of academia, and representatives from local and national government and the media.

A Closer Look at Climate Change The School of Life Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal is host to the South African branch of the Working Group II Technical Support Unit of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The IPCC, with 195 member governments, assesses scientific information related to climate change, in different sectors and for different regions.
